Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou is a unique and dynamic organisation that comprises three subsidiaries:

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
Ngāti Porou Oranga provides kaupapa Māori health and social services across Te Tairāwhiti with over 280 kaimahi from Gisborne to Te Araroa.

We are seeking two dedicated Whakaora Kōti Kaiawhina to support whānau engaged with the Criminal Justice System across Te Tairāwhiti.

We have a full-time fixed term role (12 months, 40 hours per week) focusing on walking alongside whānau to ensure their voices are heard, their needs are understood, and pathways for wellbeing and whānau ora are strengthened. You’ll work closely with the Whakaora Kōti Kaiarahi, court professionals, and community partners to provide advocacy, guidance, and practical support.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako – What we’re looking for

  • Experience working with whānau in social services, education, or related fields
  • Tertiary degree level tohu/qualifications
  • Current Full NZ Driver licence
  • Experience supporting whānau impacted by the Criminal Justice System
  • Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate collective reviews with professionals and whānau
  • Understanding of court proceedings and confidence engaging in that setting
  • Confidence operating within tikanga Māori environments and kaupapa Māori practices
  • Ability to develop and improve systems of support for whānau
  • Sound knowledge of how to hear and respond to whānau voice
  • Strong communication, behaviour management, and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of support agencies and whānau-centred practice
  • Empathetic, approachable, and able to build trusted relationships
