Mataora: Te Hiringa Matua

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:

This is a Full-time position, for our Gisborne and East Coast Communities - based across Te Tairāwhiti and involves working with hāpu mama, wider whanau and parents of tamariki aged three years and under who are experiencing multiple and complex challenges associated with alcohol and other drug use, and who are poorly connected to health and social services.

At the heart of this role is whānau-centered. The Mataora role integrates professional practice with kaupapa Māori approaches, culturally grounded engagement, early intervention, coordination of care and wānanga-based wellbeing support aligned to Te Hiringa Matua Model of Care, prioritising Mātauranga Māori, Ngāti Poroutanga and Mahi a Atua reconnecting whanau to their cultural identity and to strengthen whanau capacity to manage their health and wellbeing.

The role includes:

·             Facilitating wananga

·             screening for AOD issues

·             providing education &information

·             supporting whanau to implement a wellbeing plan

·             Liaising / advocating with wider whanau, external services, other healthcare professionals, social workers and / or counsellors depending on whanau needs.

·             Maintaining detailed records and documentation to ensure high-quality care and compliance with regulations

·             Participating in training and professional development to improve skills and knowledge.

·             Cultural and clinical supervision

NGĀ TOHU MATAURANGA - QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

·         A relevant qualification in Te Reo Māori, Mātauranga Māori, Mahi Toi, Social Work, Mental Health, Addictions or related field or agreed training plan.

·         NZ Certificate Level 4 (Health & Wellbeing, MH&A, Mahi Toi, Māori Indigenous Art)

·         Experience working with whānau experiencing vulnerability and complexity.

·         Strong understanding of kaupapa Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

·         Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Desirable:

·         Experience in AOD or mental health services.

·         Mahi a Atua training or willingness to undertake.

·         Te Reo Māori proficiency.

·         Commitment to a safe working environment and compliance with NPO Health & Safety policies.

 

NGĀ PUKENGA ME NGĀ WHEAKO – SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE

Essential:

·         Proven work history in health, educator, or social services field of at least 3-years is essential.

·         A proven professional competence in either of the above industries

·         Strong professional community networks

·         Strong Ngati Porou connections within whanau and hapu

·         Experienced in Tikanga and Kawa when visiting whanau homes

·         Has experience in development of new systems

·         Has ability to analyse and present findings of work studies

·         Excellent Oral and written communication skills

·         A team player with self-motivation and initiative

·         High level of organisational skills

·         Able to establish a good rapport with people

·         Proficient computing skills

Desirable:

·         To undertake training in order to achieve essential knowledge and skills
