Waka Manaaki Driver – Ngāti Porou Oranga

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:

Ngāti Porou Oranga are seeking a dedicated and reliable Waka Manaaki Driver to join our team on a Fixed term Part Time basis.

Location: Based on the East Coast, serving communities including Ruatoria, Te Puia Springs, Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay, to Gisborne.

This is a vital role within our Waka Manaaki Service, providing safe, culturally responsive transport for whānau along the East Coast (SH35) to access essential health services and specialist appointments at Gisborne Hospital.

As a Waka Manaaki Driver, you are more than just a driver—you are a critical link connecting our rural whānau to healthcare, you will be responsible for:

  • Passenger Transport: Delivering safe and timely transport for whānau, ensuring they reach their medical appointments in Tūranga without delay.
  • Whānau Care: Providing a respectful, mana-enhancing, and supportive environment, including assisting elderly or disabled passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Safety & Compliance: Conducting daily documented pre-start vehicle safety checks and ensuring 100% compliance with road safety laws and organizational policies.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Keeping the vehicle in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition at all times.
  • Communication: Maintaining accurate trip logs and staying in close contact with booking coordinators to manage schedules and any service disruptions.

What We Are Looking For We are seeking a "Ringa Raupa" (hardworking and industrious) individual who embodies our values of Aroha, Manaaki, and Tika/Pono.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako - Essential Skills & Experience:

  • A Full, clean New Zealand Driver Licence (Class 1 minimum).
  • A current Passenger (P) Endorsement is mandatory.
  • A Class 2 Driver Licence is preferred.
  • A current First Aid Certificate (or a willingness to obtain one).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage respectfully with whānau.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Sound judgment regarding road safety and an awareness of passenger confidentiality.

60 Day Trial Periods:  In-line with NZ employment legislation, employment terms include up to, but not longer than, 90-day trial periods, further information is available upon request.
