Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:

To Manage and lead the Intensive Services teams responsible for supporting whanau and mokopuna experiencing a high level of need, Family Harm, Police, Court, Oranga Tamariki involvement, and help to reduce the level of crisis and complexity.

The key outcome of Intensive support is to assist mokopuna and whanau to be connected and integrated to

supports within culturally safe whanau, hapu, and communities.

To be responsible for ensuring that Kaimahi, teams, have the capability and capacity to effectively provide a safe, quality service to work alongside mokopuna and whanau on their wellbeing journeys.

Ensure that the Intensive Services are operating according to the required outcomes and standards.

Build and maintain strong relationships with Whanau Oranga management team, Oranga Tamariki and key stakeholders, where appropriate, including Whanau, Hapu, Police, Family Court, Counsel for Child, and community organisations to ensure that mokopuna and whanau have the ‘right supports at the right time’, and can navigate the court or other Govt systems.

To ensure that finances and budget are managed and monitored well.

The Manager will work as a part of the highly experienced WO Management team that each contribute to the strategic goals and objectives of Ngati Porou Oranga specifically through supporting the Whanau Oranga Continuum of Care initiatives with a primary focus on building resilience for whanau.  

This full-time permanent position, 40hrs per week, will work out of the Gisborne office, with travel required across the East Coast rohe.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Bi-Cultural Social Work
  • Must have a current Social Work Practising Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience highly recommended in social work field
  • Demonstrated experience in social work field.
  • Qualification in Management / Leadership, experience in high level management and managing contracts and people.
  • Must have skills relating to practice, quality assurance, recruitment, supervision, motivation, mentoring, development and training.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams working in the social services field; sound knowledge and experience of ‘best practice’ social work in both Maori and non-Maori contexts.
  • Sound understanding of Ngati Porou whanau hapu needs, tikanga and aspirations and working in this context.
  • Proven facilitation skills.
  • Sound knowledge of child development, dynamics of abuse, effects of domestic violence and neglect, and the effects of drug and alcohol on children and     whanau.
  • An understanding of statutory agencies and their functions.
  • A good understanding and knowledge of community organisations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop high quality relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication including excellent report writing ability.
  • Computer literate and competent on standard applications.
  • Able to work effectively autonomously as well as in a team.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Initiative and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to plan with attention to detail.

Operating Competencies:

  • Full, clean NZ Driver Licence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A team player with self-motivation and initiative.
  • High level of time management skills.
  • High level of organisational skills.
  • Able to establish a good rapport with people.
  • Proficient computing skills.
  • Trustworthy  and confidential.
