Tipu Hou Mataora – Te Oranga Hinengaro

Tairāwhiti – Gisborne based with service delivery across East Coast and Western Rural communities

This role is Full-time | Permanent supporting the wellbeing, resilience and development of rangatahi and whānau through delivery of culturally grounded, community-based programmes aligned to the Tipu Hou kaupapa.

The role supports rangatahi experiencing mild to moderate wellbeing challenges and contributes to prevention, early intervention and strengthening of whānau capability, using Mātauranga Māori, relational practice and Mataora principles.

To awhi and manaaki rangatahi and whānau by delivering culturally responsive wellbeing programmes that strengthen identity, resilience and connection.

The role works alongside whānau, schools and community partners to support positive outcomes for rangatahi, contributing to safe, inclusive and mana-enhancing spaces.

Essential Qualifications 

• Education, qualification or expertise in Matauranga Maori and/or Alcohol & other Drugs Relapse/Recovery skills/expertise

• Strong connection to and understanding of Te Ao Māori and Ngāti Poroutanga.

• Experience working with rangatahi and whānau in community settings.

• Ability to engage effectively with young people and families.

• Full NZ Driver Licence.

• Commitment to smoke-free and drug-free workplace.

• Expectation – the employee will follow a pathway to become clinician appropriate for the role.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work  across community, school and outdoor settings.

Desirable

• Registered Clinician- DAPAANZ, Nursing, Psychologist or training towards/willingness to do so.

• Mataora Graduate of Te Kurahuna or willingness to undertake training.

• Te Reo Māori proficiency.

• Experience delivering group programmes or youth initiatives.

• Rural community experience

Skills / Knowledge / Experience

Essential

• Proven work history in health, educator, or social services field of at least 3-years is essential.

• A proven professional competence in either of the above industries

• Strong professional community networks

• Strong Ngati Porou connections within whanau and hapu

• Experienced in Tikanga and Kawa when visiting whanau homes

• Has experience in development of new systems

• Has ability to analyse and present findings of work studies

• Excellent Oral and written communication skills

• A team player with self-motivation and initiative

• High level of organisational skills

• Able to establish a good rapport with people

• Proficient computing skills
