About the role

The General Practitioner is responsible for providing high-quality, comprehensive, and culturally responsive primary medical care to individuals and whānau accessing NPO Primary Care Services. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role delivers evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of acute, chronic and preventative healthcare needs while promoting equitable health outcomes and whānau-centred models of care. The General Practitioner contributes to integrated primary healthcare services, supports continuity of care across the wider health system, participates in clinical governance and quality improvement activities, and maintains the highest standards of professional and ethical medical practice. The role is committed to advancing kaupapa Māori approaches to health care delivery and improving health outcomes for Māori and all communities served by NPO.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary medical care across the lifespan
• Assess, diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions
• Undertake preventative healthcare, screening and health promotion activities
• Develop and implement patient-centred management plans
• Prescribe medicines safely and appropriately
• Arrange investigations, referrals and follow-up care
• Promote informed decision-making and patient self-management
• Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records
• Participate in clinical governance activities and quality improvement initiatives
• Maintain vocational registration and Annual Practising Certificate

About you

• Vocational registration and Fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (or equivalent), or be working towards Fellowship
• Current APC and eligibility to practise in Aotearoa New Zealand
• Strong clinical judgement and commitment to quality care
• Interest in Māori health and reducing inequities
• A collaborative, adaptable and relationship-focused approach
