Te Kaupapa o te Tūranga  – Position Purpose

Are you passionate about supporting whānau and tamariki to live free from harm?

We are seeking a full-time Whāngaia Whakairo (Family Harm) Kaiawhina to provide culturally grounded support and intervention for whānau experiencing family harm across the Ngati Porou rohe | Te Tairawhiti (Coast & Gisborne).

In this role, you will work alongside whānau to strengthen safety, wellbeing, and long-term outcomes through advocacy, assessment, planning, and collaboration with services. You will be part of a collective, kaupapa Māori approach that empowers whānau to create positive and lasting change.

You will play a key role in supporting tamariki and contributing to safer, stronger whānau across our communities.

Ngā Kawenga Matua – Key  Responsibilities

  • Operations: Provide culturally safe, whānau-centred support and intervention services
  • Stakeholder Engagement:  Build trusted relationships with whānau, hapū, iwi, and partner agencies
  • Risk Management: Identify and respond to risk, ensuring safety planning and appropriate     escalation
  • Programme Support: Contribute to prevention initiatives and community-based programmes
  • Communication: Maintain accurate records and provide clear, timely reporting

Ngā Tohu Mātauranga – Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in social services, health, or a related field or equivalent experience    
  • Full, clean New Zealand  Driver Licence

Ngā Pūkenga me Ngā Wheako – Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with whānau in social services, family harm, or community settings
  • Ability to engage in a culturally responsive, mana-enhancing way
  • Strong understanding of tikanga Māori and kaupapa Māori practice
  • Experience in assessment, planning, and supporting whānau in complex situations
  • Ability to work collaboratively across services and with external agencies
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
