Are you someone who believes in the power of independence? Ngāti Porou Oranga is looking for compassionate, hard-working individuals to join our Home Based Support Services (HBSS) team. Based in Te Puia Springs and serving the coast from Whangara to Potaka, you will be the hands and heart of our mission to keep our people living well in their own homes.

This is more than just a caregiver role. We operate under a restorative model of care, which means you won’t just be doing things for our clients—you will be empowering them to participate in their own health and wellbeing journeys.

What Your Day Will Look Like

As a vital member of our community-based team, your role is diverse and deeply rewarding:

  • Personal Care & Dignity: Assisting whānau with bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility.
  • Home & Heart: Helping with essential household tasks like laundry, meal preparation, and vacuuming to ensure a safe, clean living environment.
  • Holistic Support: Providing mental, spiritual, and emotional encouragement, ensuring our services are delivered with Manaaki (respect) and Aroha (empathy).
  • Connection: Reporting clinical observations back to our Primary Care teams to ensure our whānau receive the best possible care.

Who We Are Looking For

We need reliable and approachable people who work with integrity. To be successful, you will need:

  • Essential Qualifications: NCEA Level 2 and a National Certificate in Health and Disability (Level 2) or equivalent.
  • Practical Tools: A clean, full or restricted NZ Driver’s License, access to a reliable vehicle, and a current First Aid certificate.
  • Cultural Heart: Experience or a strong desire to work within Tikanga Māori and a bicultural environment.
  • Physical Capability: This is an active role; you’ll need to be able to lift up to 20kg, walk stairs, and stand or bend for extended periods.

The Details

  • Position Type: Casual (hours offered as and when required).
  • Flexibility: Shifts range from 3 to 8 hours and can include weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Safety: Satisfactory NZ Police Vetting and a pre-employment drug and alcohol test are required.
