Practice Nurse - Uawa Community Health Clinic

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:

Ngati Porou Oranga Hauora is seeking a dedicated and culturally sensitive Practice Nurse to join our team at the Uawa Community Health Centre. This is a permanent part-time position where youwill provide comprehensive primary health nursing services across the lifespan, including screening, assessment, education, and treatment.

You will be part of a team committed to our vision: ‘Te Whakapūmau i te Mana Motuhake o Ngāti Porou mō ngā Uri Whakatipu’ —ensuring Ngāti Porou self-determination and control over our destiny for future generations.

Ngā Kawenga Matua – Key Responsibilities In this role, you will perform a wide range of nursing duties, including:

  • Clinical  Support: Assist with GP and Virtual GP consultations, provide telephone and face-to-face triage, and support Rural Health Nurses (RHNs) with home     care and wound care.
  • Immunisations:  Actively provide and promote immunisations for whānau and the wider community.
  • Preventative Health: Conduct cervical screening (HPV swabs/smears) and maintain vaccinator certification and cold chain management.
  • Whānau Care: Deliver diabetes checks, chronic care management, and health promotion.
  • Community Health: Collaborate with Public Health on community education, contact tracing, and communicable disease control.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records and manage recalls using Medtech Evolution.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and experience in primary care delivery.
  • High level of cultural sensitivity and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Competency with Medtech Evolution.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Māori health settings and engagement with rural/remote communities.
  • Certified Cervical Smear taker and Immunisation Vaccinator.
  • Registered Nurse Prescriber or Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Health Care.
  • Knowledge of Whānau Ora models.
