E Tipu E Rea Kaiāwhina – Nāti Pēpi

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:

As our E Tipu E Rea Kaiāwhina, you will be part of a kaupapa Māori team delivering enhanced Well Child Tamariki Ora services. This is a fixed term/full-time, mobile outreach role based at Te Puia Hospital where you will support young, first-time, and vulnerable whānau in their homes, on marae, and in community settings across the Coast from Uawa to Potaka.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build trusted, mana-enhancing relationships with whānau to support engagement with health services.
  • Work alongside Registered Nurses to provide intensive support for māmā and pēpi aged 0–5.
  • Promote health and wellbeing through education on safe sleeping, nutrition, immunisation, and positive parenting grounded in tikanga and mātauranga Māori.
  • Advocate for whānau and help them navigate health, education, and social support systems.
  • Assist in delivering wānanga, parenting programmes, and community events.

About You

We are looking for a hard-working and empathetic individual who "walks the talk" and aligns with our values of Aroha, Manaaki, and Tika/Pono.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako - Essential Skills & Experience:

  • A relevant qualification in health, social services, or community support (or equivalent lived/community experience).
  • A full clean New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with whānau.
  • A deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and kaupapa Māori approaches.
  • Compliance with Vulnerable Children’s Act safety checking.

Desirable Skills:

  • Competency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
  • Knowledge of local East Coast communities and networks.
  • Experience in facilitating groups or community programmes.
