Raukūmara Haerenga to the Kiwi capital
October 9, 2024

Over the course of two incredible days, we took 25 tamariki on an unforgettable journey to Whakatāne, where they were able to visualize what a thriving ngahere looks like. We wanted them to see and dream of what’s possible for our Raukūmara.

The tamariki explored a Kiwi sanctuary, surrounded by flourishing bird life and a rich, dense understory. As they walked through the ngahere, they heard the calls of kiwi and weka, and even spotted glowing creepy crawlies along the way!

A special highlight was meeting our helicopter pilot steve who flies our cullers in, out, and around the Raukūmara, giving our tamariki a unique insight into the field of aviation and our efforts to protect Te Raukūmara.

This experience has inspired them to envision a future where our Raukūmara is thriving once again—alive with the sounds, sights, and mauri of a healthy, restored ecosystem.
