Support for Whānau Affected by the Te Tairāwhiti Weather Event

If your home has been damaged in the recent weather event, support is available. This page outlines the key steps and where to go for the right assistance.

1. Has Your Home Been Placarded?

After a Rapid Building Assessment, your home may have received a coloured placard.

Red – Unsafe
Do not enter the building.

Yellow – Restricted Access
Access may be limited or supervised.

White – Can Be Used
You can occupy your home, but this does not mean there is no damage.

You cannot remove or change a placard yourself.
Contact your local council if you believe a reassessment is needed.

2. Need Temporary Accommodation?

If your home is not liveable while repairs are underway, the Temporary Accommodation Service (TAS) can help.

Before progressing your claim:

  • Contact your private insurer first
  • Take clear photos of all damage
  • Keep records of repair costs
