Te Rūnanganui o Ngati Porou were proud to sponsor and support the Te Araroa Community Expo and Information Event, held on Wednesday 11 March 2026 at Hinerupe Marae. This event was a space created for connection, information sharing, and collective healing following recent events in the community.
Hosted on behalf of Te Whānau a Hinerupe, the Te Araroa community, and Te Araroa Civil Defence, the afternoon brought together a wide range of agencies who supported the community during the response.
Rather than a traditional hui format, the event was held as an expo-style wānanga, allowing whānau to move through information stalls, connect directly with service providers, ask questions, and learn more about the support available.
Participating organisations included Manaaki Matakaoa, Rural Support, Earth Sciences New Zealand, Beef + Lamb New Zealand, the On Farm Support Team, Gisborne District Council, MetService, MBIE Temporary Accommodation Support, Tairāwhiti Whenua Māori Collective, Pouhere Taonga (Heritage New Zealand), Te Puni Kōkiri, Hinerupe Marae, Te Kupenga Net Trust, Cushla Tangaere-Manuel – Ikaroa-Rāwhiti Office, Department of Conservation, Ngā Whenua Rāhui, and Anne Tangaere.
Each agency shared information about the services they provide, the work undertaken during the response, and the ongoing support available to whānau. Resources and handouts were also available to help ensure our whanau remains informed as recovery efforts continue.
Most importantly, the gathering created a safe and supportive space for kōrero, giving community members the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, and provide feedback.
The afternoon reflected the strength and resilience of the Te Araroa community, with whānau, iwi, and partner agencies coming together with a shared commitment to supporting one another as the community continues its journey of recovery and healing.
