Shepherd

An exciting opportunity has opened up on one of the East Coast’s iconic sheep and beef stations. Located 2 and a half hours East of Gisborne, we are looking for an experienced, motivated shepherd to join the team at Pakihiroa. The property comprises of a 1,200ha breeding operation running 7,000 Romney ewes and 500 Angus cows, with an additional 500ha of leased land and flats.

Pakihiroa consists of big, open hill country with 90% of all stockwork carried out on horseback offering great mustering and dog work. The shepherd will work closely with the farm manger and independently to complete all day-to-day tasks. This is a hands-on role suited to someone passionate about stock work who is keen to grow their farming skillset in a supportive team environment.

We are looking for someone with:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a shepherd

• 5+ working dogs under good control

• Confident horse handling skills

• Basic knowledge of general maintenance and repairs

• Competence with a handpiece

• A high level of stockmanship

• High level of communication

As a shepherd on Pakihiroa, you must be reliable, have a good work ethic, a positive attitude and willingness to learn. This role offers the opportunity to work in an inclusive farming environment with the chance to further your skills and progress your knowledge.
