Chief Financial Officer

We are seeking an exceptional Chief Financial Officer to join Ngāti Porou iwi and provide enduring financial leadership, strategic oversight, and financial stewardship. Based in Tairāwhiti, this role sits at the heart of an iwi with responsibilities and impact that extend across the rohe and beyond.

A Critical Distinction

This CFO role sits at the head of the group driving strategy, group oversight, reporting and delivery of various services. The successful candidate must bring extensive experience in group financial management in a complex and varied environment, contract service delivery in the health sector, charitable activities, and a firm understanding of investments and commercial activities.

This role is responsible for shaping and guiding the organisation’s financial direction to ensure enduring prosperity for future generations.

About the role

This senior leadership position partners closely with the Chief Executive, Board, and wider leadership team to:

  • Lead financial strategy, long-term planning, and organisational performance
  • Strengthen and oversee financial systems, reporting, risk, and compliance
  • Provide expert financial advice, modelling, forecasting, and portfolio oversight for a multi-entity group
  • Financial analysis on a range of projects, systems implementation, and efficient charitable activities
  • Build capability across shared services including Finance, HR, IT, Communications, and Health
  • Ensure sound governance, capital planning, and financial stability across the group
  • Drive performance, accountability, and sustainable growth aligned with kaupapa Māori values

About you

You will bring:

  • Significant financial experience, in a complex group consisting of contract service delivery, charitable activities and commercial aspects.
  • Proven capability in financial modelling, group reportings and financial oversight, budgeting a capex management
  • Deep respect for, and genuine love of, te ao Māori, tikanga, and kaupapa Māori ways of working
  • Experience engaging effectively with iwi, hapū, and Māori communities
  • Strategic capability and the confidence to influence, guide, and support executive and board decision-making
  • Strong relationship skills and the ability to lead high-performing teams
  • CA qualification or equivalent senior professional finance accreditation
