A concert to help raise awareness about suicide prevention and intervention will be held on Saturday the 5th of December at Whakarua Park in Ruatorea.
The Lean on Me concert includes local acts Kahu Waitoa, Darylene Rogers, Venessa Grant, Miss Pou(namu), Deewuz, Fire & Ash, G-Knights, Ethnic Roots, Under the Sun, Ora Taukamo and Ru awhitiri Ngatai-Mahue with main act Chad Chambers to wrap it up. It will be attended by national Harley Davidson organisation R.A.T.S. (Riders against Teenage Suicide), speakers from various backgrounds including Green Ribbon (anti-bullying organisation) and local whānau affected by suicide. There will be health professionals on the ground for whanau to approach and discuss personal issues with including Ngāti Porou Hauora, Te Kupenga (Maori Mental Health) and Victim Support, and information tents. For tamariki there will be Harley Davidson rides, a spray-paint tagging board, face painting and taa moko drawing. There will also be food stores and a kaumatua tent. Donations have already been received from several marae, schools, local businesses and further money pledged from local organisations. The event is smoke, alcohol and drug free.
