Ngati Porou Reo Revitalisation Programmes

The funding programmes are designed to ensure the right kinds of support and expertise is available to successfully implement Toitu te Reo . Funding has been allocated to the five programmes, on the basis of achieving the right mix of activities to cater for the collective reo needs of Ngati Porou and the particular reo needs of participants. Below are summaries of the five programmes. 

1. Nga Pu Whakaha i te Reo [Reo champions]

Leading and supporting Ngati Porou whanau/hapu/marae/taurahere in the implementation of their reo action plans and contributing to the overall success of Toitu te Reo. ( Download the application form here)

Purpose of the Programme:  To support whanau, hapu, and taurahere to achieve their Ngati Porou Reo goals and interests and provide leadership in the implementation of their reo action plan. Create a network of Ngati Porou Reo Champions/Advocates
Eligibility: Nominations must be received by; Ngati Porou Whanau, Hapu, Marae collectives, and endorsed by the relevant whanau, hapu, Rohenga Tipuna, or Ngati Porou Taurahere
Number of applicants supported each year: Up to seven hapu, marae, rohenga tipuna endorsed reo champions will  be selected per year. Up to three taurahere endorsed reo champion will be selected per year. 

2. Hapai i te Reo [Co-investing in collective Reo initiatives]

Grants to support whanau, hapu, marae collectives and taurahere led language initiatives ( click here for more detailed information). 

Purpose of the Programme: To assist hapu, marae collectives, rohenga tipuna & Taurahere to implement their reo action plans 
Eligibility:  Hapu, Marae collectives, Rohenga Tipuna & Taurahere
Number of applicants supported each year: Up to 10 collectives will be supported per year.

3. Puaki te Reo i te kaenga [Fostering Ngati Porou Reo at home]:

Grants to assist whanau to increase their understanding, proficiency and use of Ngati Porou reo in homes (click here for more detailed information). 

Purpose of the Programme: To support whanau to enhance and grow their use and proficiency in te reo within homes
Eligibility: Ngati Porou whanau within the hapu, marae, rohenga tipuna and taurahere collectives
Number of applicants supported each year: Up to 10 collectives will be supported per year, with each supporting up to 20 whanau households within their hapu, marae, rohenga tipuna, taurahere collectives. 

4. Whakapakari i te Reo Ako [Strengthening reo fluency and competency amongst Educators]:

a grant to assist collectives of Ngati Porou kaiako and kaiawhina to strengthen their knowledge, proficiency and use of Ngati Porou reo.

Purpose of the Programme: To assist the growth of Te Reo o Ngati Porou amongst Ngati Porou kaiako and kaiawhina
Eligibility: Restricted to education collaborations 
Number of applicants supported each year: Restricted to x 1 ( NP Education Sector collective) 

5. Nga Puna Rauemi Reo [Ngati Porou Reo Resources]:

grants for accessing and creating Ngati Porou Reo resources

Purpose of the Programme: To assist and develop Ngati Porou reo resources that maintain and promote te reo o nga hapu and increase the proficiency and use of te reo 
Eligibility: Currently supporting Radio Ngati Porou to digitize the RNP audio & video archives.
Number of applicants supported each year: Restricted to x 1 ( Radio Ngati Porou)

Whanau, Hapu, Marae and Taurahere active participation in reo revitalization programmes funded through the five programmes will be critical to the success of Toitu Te Reo. Participation will be encouraged and supported by Reo champions who will become key leaders of the Ngati Porou Reo revitalization programme.
